Terms and conditions

Thank you for using Jacobs and Co.  Please take a few minutes to read this information sheet prior to loading.

Mission statement: 

We take great pride in providing a reliable, friendly and honest service. Please be assured that we will do everything in our power to make this move or delivery run smoothly. We operate largely on a referral basis and value all our customers. Congestion charges:

Any loading, unloading or travel (avoidable or otherwise) through the congestion zone will be charged at £8.00 and added to the total amount due. Our drivers will always travel the shortest route.

Parking:

Various parking restrictions apply in and around London. Please ensure that you provide us with the necessary parking permit or a suitable arrangement , as all parking fines resulting from loading or offloading will be passed on to the client. Parking meters and charges are also the responsibility of the client, all funds paid towards parking by Jacobs and Co will be added to the final bill. 

Insurance:

Our vehicles are fully insured for the purpose of moving or delivering. We have a maximum £25 000 goods in transit cover and have public liability insurance. Jacobs and Co will not accept any responsibility for damage to goods, furniture, vehicles, property or other under £250.Claims bigger than £250 will be dealt with by our insurance company. Any person wishing to claim for damages should notify Jacobs and Co of their intention within 7 days of the move, in writing. All goods with a value of more than £250 have to be listed on an inventory with their estimated value PRIOR to commencement of the move. Items not listed on the inventory will not be covered.

Other exclusions are: 

1) Loss or damage to food & drink, furs, jewellery, watches, precious metals and precious stones, Deeds, Bonds, Bills of Exchange, Promissory Notes,

2) Money or Securities for money stamps of all kinds, Manuscripts and other documents 

3)  Loss or damage caused by or arising from wear, tear, gradual deterioration, mildew, moth, vermin, or any process of cleaning, repairing or restoring. 

4) Loss of or damage to self assembly furniture unless dismantled prior to the day of removal. 

5) Mechanical or Electrical derangement unless caused by external means. 

6) Breakage of owner-packed goods unless caused by a major accident to the means of conveyance 

7) Loss or damage occurring in premises where the goods are stored or warehoused. 

 In the event of loss or damage to any article forming a pair or set, the cover is limited to the proportionate value that that article bears to the total value of the pair or set and no additional depreciation is paid. 

Packing:

Please ensure that all fragile items are packed securely and all boxes marked accordingly. Jacobs and Co will not accept responsibility for any damage to goods due to inappropriate packing. It is the responsibility of the client to ensure that all glass items are well packed and protected for travel. Jaco and Co will not take any responsibility for damage to any glass item that have not been packed sufficiently nor for any item that has not been packed in their presence.

Loading:

Our staff will always pack carefully and strap or tie down any loose items. The client is responsible to ensure that all fragile items are packed in bubble wrap or packed in otherwise appropriate material to minimize the risk of breaking, and that corners or flat surfaces that may be scratched are appropriately protected.  

Overloading:

Under no circumstances may the vehicle be overloaded. When the vehicle has reached maximum capacity –no more items will be loaded. The maximum load will be determined by the driver only. 

Lifting:

In accordance with health and safety no item weighing more than 20kg, may be lifted by one person. Such items are considered to be a two man lift. It is the responsibility of the client to ensure that enough people have been booked or is available to help for heavy items. It is in the discretion of the driver or his second to refuse to lift any item deemed to weigh more than 20kg without help 

Keys:

It is in the clients own interest to ensure that the relevant keys to the loading or delivery address is available. Drivers are only able to wait for as long as they have been booked and are required to move onto the next job. Jacobs and Co reserves the right to offload goods again at full cost if these requirements are not met. 

Rates:

Rates are charged from when the vehicle commences loading at the pick up address and end when the offloading has been completed at the destination address. (Unless specifically otherwise quoted). All jobs have a minimum two (2) hour charge (Unless otherwise quoted.) Labour time will always be rounded up to the nearest half hour. 

Passengers

No passengers may travel in the back of a vehicle. Vehicles are flitted with 3 safety belt sand may only carry 3 passengers including the driver.
